The Gwallgofiaid project in Blaenau Ffestiniog, that recieved funding through the Ymddiried Development Partnership Scheme in 2019, is an example of the type of project which could be supported through the Owen Edwards Scholarship Fund this year. We welcome projects that consider the specific needs of a local community, and how creativity, learning new skills and gaining practical opportunities can enrich experiences accross all age groups, and within the community in general. Existing projects that need support in order to further develop provision and create a more sustainable base for the future, csn also be considered.

There is no limit as regards to length or period of the project, nor does it have to be a ‘new’ activity.

The most important factor is that there is clear proof of need and demand within the particular community. We’re happy to consider a wide range of projects – large or small, short or long-term. These projects could lead towards promoting creativity within a community developing confidence and self-expression and in some cases, introduce participants to new career path options. Therefore, in 2020, part of the Owen Edwards Scholarship Fund will be designated towards projects, which through media based activity provide resources, training and new, different platfforms for community based groups. The aim is to support local community organisations who are already working in this area. Ymddiried believes that it is important to ensure open access, and encourage understanding of ownership and use of media channels. There has been a massive increase in media outlets and services, of which a new generation of users and content providers have taken ownership. The Owen Edwards Scholarship Fund was established in memory of a former trustee who was dedicated to establishing a television service which reflected the aspirations and interests of communities accross Wales. Its aim is to expand and enrich the range of skills and experience of media professionals of the future offer practical opportunities for newcomers, and facilitate access to the media for communities in Wales. The Welsh Broadcasting Trust is a registered charity, established to promote and support educational activities in relation to television, film, radio and digital services.
